According to the American Academy of Pediatrics there are several helpful things that parents and caregivers can do to ease a child’s separation anxiety. ​
​​Some suggestions:
Young infants
  • Be patient
  • Be consistent
  • Be comforting

  • Be consistent in routines and schedules
  • Encourage parents to leave quietly
  • Have a goodbye ritual

  • Have a consistent goodbye ritual
  • Encourage parents to leave quietly and return quietly

​​It is important for children of all ages to have a familiar face greet them when they arrive at child care as well as consistent daily routines and goodbye rituals. It is also helpful if children arrive at child care well fed and rested. Working with parents to establish a consistent routine and arrival ritual is one of the best ways to ease separation anxiety in children of all ages.
